| I heart the Waterloo Farmer's Market in the Park. |
You've gotta loved this heart-shaped strawberry, but check out those fingernails - you just know you've got the real deal, picked right out of the garden, when you take a look at those fingernails.
Last week was our "Happy Birthday America!" week. We had the ladies from the Waterloo Historical Society dressed up in their finest from the old days.
They sold baked goods and they also entertained us at the market with old-tyme music played on the dulce heimer (organ).
We also sold strawberry shortcake at 1776 prices - just 10 cents! Happy Birthday America!
This is Mike Cedarburg, and his beautiful daughter, Talia. They own and operate "Connection Cafe" right outside of Watertown near Farm & Fleet. They sell coffee drinks and smoothies on hot days. We're so glad they are in Waterloo!
EXCITING NEWS - THE CAROUSEL IS OPEN!
Beginning this week, Waterloo's beautiful antique Carousel will be open during the farmer's market. This week it will be open from 5:00-6:00, so come on down with the kids and take a ride on the Carousel.
THIS WEEK AT THE MARKET: It's the Farmer's Market Cooking Challenge! Bring your favorite dish using farmer's market ingredients.
Choose from an Appetizer, Main Dish, Side Dish, Salad, Bread, and Dessert. The dishes will be judged at 5:00 and then auctioned off by John Spies with half of the proceeds going to the cooks, and the other half going to support the Carousel. There is a kids category for kids age 12 and under. Local chefs will judge and ribbons will be awarded in each category, with a $25 cash prize going to our grand champion! Don't miss this contest! BE in it, or BID on the dishes and help us raise even more money to help pay for the restoration of Waterloo's beautiful Carousel!
NEXT WEEK'S EVENT:
Next week it's "Back in Time With Kids." We will be going back in time by making homeade ice cream, lemonade and biscuits! The fun begins at 4:00, so, kids, don't miss it!
Remember, the Waterloo Farmer's Market in the Park is held every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Waterloo Fireman's Park.
See you at the market!
