Pie-Baking Contest Coming to the Waterloo Farmer's Market in the Park
Thursday, June 23rd
Thursday, June 23rd is the date for the 2nd Annual Pie-Baking contest at the Waterloo Farmer's Market in the Park. Home bakers are invited to show off their best pies to be judged by local chefs, Beth Crave of the Crave Brothers, and Scott Hartwig of Hartwig's Diner in Waterloo. Each contestant may enter a total of three pies in the contest. Once the pies are judged, they will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Half of the money will go to the bakers and the other half will go to Waterloo Carousel fund. Waterloo's antique carousel was damaged in the 2008 fund and is in the process of being refurbished.
Contestants can enter three of the following categories: single-crust, double-crust, crumb crust, fruit, cream, pecan, and meat pies. There will also be a category for kids 12 and under. Contestants do not have to register ahead of time. The contest begins at 5 p.m., and the pie auction will take place at 6 p.m. with local auctioneer John Spies serving as our auctioneer. Don't miss the old-fashioned fun. Come out and bid on some home-baked, beautiful pies to take home with you!
The Waterloo Farmer's Market in the Park runs every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Waterloo Firemen's Park.
